“I BELIEVE IN YOUR PRAYERS”: PETER OBI TELLS CATHOLIC PRIESTS AS THEY STRETCHED OUT THEIR HANDS

BY FR. ANTHONY ADETAYO

The Nigerian Catholic Priests Association meets with Peter Obi; the Labour Party presidential flag-bearer at a meeting in Calabar on 27th October 2022 for an interactive session.

It will be recalled that Catholic Diocesan Priests have an association which meets nationally on annual basis. For this year, the city of Calabar was the venue for all Catholic Priests to meet as all the Dioceses were represented. This made the National President; Very Rev. Fr. Johnbosco Ezehi to invite Peter Obi to cease the opportunity of this meeting to interact with the Priests at their gathering. Peter Obi who spoke for about 1 hour says the people should check the records of where all the Presidential candidates left behind as a criteria for election. He gave a good account of his administration in office as the Governor of Anambra state for 8 years. He narrates how his fight against corruption earned him impeachment but for the love of the common good and betterment of the State, he won the case and continued the Governor. He says “for me excellence was the watchword and not negotiable.”

In boosting his CV, the former Governor of Anambra State makes a claim that he worked perfectly with the Church as a Governor by partnering with them. He handed over Mission schools back to the Church and gave them the full support. He also rebuilt nursing schools and School of midwifery and gave the church to run. For him, “this yielded fruits in abundance and the State moved from being 26th to number one in Nigeria.”

Peter Obi appreciates the Priests who have gathered for their meeting, for giving him the opportunity to speak with them while he took garden egg and groundnut and comfortably eats among them. He said he believes so much in prayer and then asked the Catholic Priests across Nigeria to pray for him especially in this new journey. In such a glaring willingness, the entire Priests gathered at the venue of this meeting stretched their hands over Peter Obi in prayer, praying that he may succeed by God’s will and make our country great again.
