In a major boost to regional cultural preservation and religious heritage, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has officially certified the Catholic Museum of Art and History (CAMAH) in Ijebu-Ode.

The certification, formally dated September 22, 2026, marks the successful culmination of an assessment process that included a comprehensive physical inspection of the facility by ministry delegates on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

The accreditation represents a significant milestone for the Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode, its chief shepherd, Most Rev. Francis Obafemi Adesina, and the dedicated museum committee who spearheaded the initiative. Under Bishop Adesina’s vision, the museum was established to safeguard, organize, and showcase sacred relics, historical art, and artifacts that chronicle the evolution of the Catholic faith and local heritage in the region.

Located within the JDPC Compound in the G.R.A. area of Ijebu-Ode, the facility, which was earlier blessed and officially commissioned by the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, has steadily grown into a hub for visitors, scholars, and pilgrims.

With government certification now secured, CAMAH is formally recognized as a standard cultural and historical repository. The status is expected to attract greater tourist interest, expand educational visits for students and researchers, and strengthen partnerships with state and federal tourism boards.

Diocesan representatives and museum committee leaders expressed gratitude for the ministry’s thorough evaluation and endorsement, calling the certificate a victory for the entire community and an incentive to continue preserving local heritage for generations to come.
