In an interview with Seun Okinbaloye of Channels Television on ”Politics Today” which took place on the 28th of September 2022, John Cardinal Onaiyekan speaks on the peace accord signed by presidential aspirants for the forthcoming 2023 elections, saying that things are not as hopeless as they may seem to be. He said Nigeria can be great again.

Millions of Nigerians in 2015 seemingly had a kind of fear that Nigeria as a nation was going to break apart during the general elections as tensions arose from different agitation groups. This necessitated the need for signing a peace pact, where presidential candidates were asked to sign the peace pact. This meant they would accept the outcome of the election results so long as the election results were not rigged.

Cardinal Onaiyekan expresses fears on INEC and other agencies responsible for conducting free and fair election. He said they have to get it right this time especially now that the youths are fully involved so that they will not lose hope on the Nigerian electoral processes.

Speaking on the question of whom Nigerians should vote for? His Eminence, Cardinal Onaiyekan says “in making your choice, let me tell you whom you should vote for. Nigerians should look out for these three qualities in him;”

i. A honest man who matches his words with actions.

ii. The man who understands the needs of the people.

iii. And finally, the person who has the capacity to deal with crisis not just security crisis but also financial crisis.
