The Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode follows the Universal Church today with the opening of the Jubilee Door of Hope at St. Sebastian Catholic Cathedral, Odo-Egbo, Ijebu-Ode. The rite conducted by the Bishop of the Diocese; Most Rev. Francis Adesina, took place shortly before the Mass of Holy Family Sunday on 29th December 2024,.

The opening of the Jubilee Door of Hope is a momentous occasion, symbolizing the beginning of a year-long journey of spiritual reflection, renewal, and pilgrimage. Bishop Adesina emphasized the importance of the procession from the Cathedral hall to the Cathedral church, highlighting it as a representation of the essential Jubilee Pilgrimage. The Holy Door is deemed ‘Holy’ since it calls all those who enter through it to walk in holiness of life. During the singing of the Jubilee hymn, representatives of the entire People of God crossed its threshold with the Bishop, as a prelude to the countless pilgrims of hope that will celebrate the mysteries of salvation during the Holy Year.

As it coincided with Holy Family Sunday, the Bishop was joined by the Cathedral Administrator; Very Rev. Fr. Albert Igbodipe and other concelebrating Priests. The celebration took on a special significance, with numerous families actively participating in the liturgical functions during the Mass. Children played a prominent role in the ceremony, adding a sense of joy and vitality to the proceedings.

As the Diocese embarks on this jubilee year, the faithful are invited to reflect on their spiritual journeys, seeking forgiveness, healing, and renewal.

Bishop Adesina’s words of encouragement at Mass are also very vital. He advises parents to handle their children with love and care just like Joseph and Mary having found Jesus after three days. According to the Bishop, our families should imitate the Holy family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. His homily set the tone for a meaningful and transformative year of hope.
