By Fr. Anthony Adetayo

The Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode, along with the members of the Missionary Society of St. Paul (MSP) in Ijebu-Ode Diocese, gathered on Monday, August 18, 2025, to celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Fr Paul Sobande MSP, who passed away on July 2, 2025. A requiem Mass was held at the MSP Formation House in Iperu, bringing together a community united in grief and gratitude for the priest’s service.

Born on August 9, 1973, Fr. Paul dedicated his life to God’s mission. Though he has worked in many places since his ordination 25th June 2011, he came into the Diocese 4th September 2021 and the past four years have seen him served tirelessly as the pastor of St. Francis Parish in Isara Remo, where he became known for his profound commitment to his parishioners. His work ethic and selfless nature left a lasting impact on the community he served.

During the funeral Mass, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Adebanjo delivered a moving homily, remembering Fr. Paul as “a man who has an urgent sense of the mission.” He spoke of the late priest’s unwavering dedication, noting that “he would inconvenience himself just for the parish to have steady growth.” The solemn occasion saw a large attendance of priests from all deaneries of the Diocese, including the Regional Episcopal Vicar, Very Rev. Fr. Jude-Mariae Ezeigbo, who represented the Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Francis Obafemi Adesina.

A representative from St. Francis Parish read a heartfelt tribute, sharing emotional stories that highlighted Fr. Paul’s goodness and the personal sacrifices he made for his flock. The tribute was a testament to the deep bond he forged with the people of Isara Remo, who will forever cherish his memory.

Fr. Paul Sobande MSP will be remembered as a selfless missionary whose life was a true example of service and unwavering faith. He is survived by the MSP Missionary Society, his parishioners and family members, his fellow priests, and all those whose lives he touched.
