The 53rd International Eucharistic Congress concluded today 15th September 2024 with a grand closing Mass at the Bicentennial Park in Quito, Ecuador. The ceremony marked the end of a week-long gathering of thousands of Catholics from around the world.
The Mass was presided over by Papal delegate, Cardinal Balthazar Cardozo, who in his homily encouraged all delegates from 65 countries, but mostly Latin Americans, to carry the joy and faith in the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist in our hearts healing the broken world in the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood. At the end of the Holy Mass which concluded in 1 hour 15minutes, he announced Pope Francis’ decision that Archdiocese of Sydney will host the next edition marking the centenary of the last International Eucharistic Congress held in Australia. The Mass was concelebrated by numerous bishops and priests, including the Nigerian delegates.
The congress, themed “Fraternity to Heal the World,” aimed to promote human brotherhood and solidarity. Delegates engaged in workshops, lectures, and cultural events, exploring ways to address global challenges through the lens of faith.
The closing ceremony featured a vibrant procession, traditional music, and a farewell address by the Archbishop of Quito, who thanked participants for their presence and encouraged them to spread the message of fraternity and Eucharistic devotion.
As the congress came to a close, participants departed with renewed spirits and a commitment to build a more harmonious world, inspired by the power of the Eucharist.
