“Embrace your specific Vocation…” Pope Francis’ World Vocation Sunday’s Message
By Fr. Anthony Adetayo
Pope Francis of saintly memory on 19th March 2025 released his message for the world Day of Vocation also known as the Good Shepherd Sunday. The central message of the World Vocation Sunday 2025, themed “Pilgrims of Hope: the Gift of Life,” emphasizes that every vocation within the Church, be it lay, ordained, or consecrated, is a sign of the hope God has for the world. He calls on all to embrace their vocations as a generous gift, a journey of love and service that requires us to leave behind self-absorption and embark on a path guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Pope highlights that in a world facing various challenges, including injustice and conflict, Christians are called to be “pilgrims of hope,” by embracing their specific vocation, sustained by prayer and the Eucharist. He urges the Church, especially adults and priests, to accompany young people in discerning their vocational paths. To the youth, he encourages them to listen to their hearts and God’s dreams for them, emphasizing that a vocation flourishes within a believing and loving community. Ultimately, the message is a call to actively participate in the Church’s mission, becoming witnesses of hope and proclaiming that following Christ is a source of true joy.
