“CONFIRMATION IS NOT ‘THE SACRAMENT OF GOODBYE…” FR. ANTHONY ADETAYO PREACHES TO CONFIRMANDI AT LGHS, ITELE

The management, staff, students and the parents’ of Louisville Girls High School, Itele, gathered on the 1st April 2023 for the Confirmation of 39 of their students at the school premises with the Mass stipulated for 9:00am. Present at the occasion was the Bishop of the Diocese; Most Rev. Francis Obafemi Adesina who is the Chief celebrant and conferral of the sacrament. Also in attendance was Rev. Fr. Antony Adetayo; the Director of Social Communications of the Diocese and the homilist of the day. In attendance was Rev. Fr. Joseph Ogunnupebi; the Diocesan Director of Religious Education and Catechesis, Rev. Fr. Charles Soyege; Parish Priest of St. Louis Catholic Church, Ijebu-Ife, Rev. Fr. Erasmus Oguh SDV; Chaplain to LGHS.
The celebration which coincides also with the second term vacation of the students attracted a huge number of congregants as the entire Louisville Girls family had their houses’ thanksgiving.
At the delivery of his homily, Rev. Fr. Anthony Adetayo reiterated the necessity of becoming a strong Christian through the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. According to him, “I decided to remain a Christian, a member of the Catholic Church because of the Holy Spirit, received in its fullness at Confirmation.” In furtherance of his admonition, he said, “Confirmation is not ‘the Sacrament of goodbye, goodbye to the Lord and to the Church, goodbye to the Mass and the sacraments. Instead, it is the sacrament of hello. Though all of you have gifts both spiritual and talents, however do not forget that the best gift is the gift of love as St. Paul explains in 1Cor 13.”
The Principal of the college; Rev. Sr. Catherine Ologunagba SSL delivered the vote of thanks to the Bishop, the concelebrating Priests, the parents, staff and students. It was an amazing ceremony of great ushering of grace for everyone as parents joyfully took their wards home being the vacation day.
