Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan Mourns the Passing of Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony Akiwowo

The Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan is in deep mourning following the sudden passing of the Director of Social Communications, Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony Akiwowo. He died on Saturday, March 29th, 2025, in Ibadan after a brief illness.

Fr. Akiwowo was widely known and respected as a dedicated and hardworking pastor with an exceptional love for academics and an unparalleled passion for communication. His commitment extended beyond the Ibadan Diocese as he also served as the Coordinator of Social Communication for the entire Ibadan Province and the Region.

News of his demise has sent shockwaves through the Archdiocese of Ibadan and the Diocese of Ijebu-Ode. Fr. Akiwowo had cultivated a strong friendship with the Ijebu-Ode Diocese and was recently invited in November 2024 by Rev. Fr. Anthony Adetayo to conduct a seminar for the priests and religious of the Diocese. His insightful contributions and warm presence left a lasting impression.

The loss of Fr. Akiwowo is deeply felt across the Catholic community. Condolence messages have been pouring in from clergy, religious, and lay faithful in the entire Nigeria attesting to the profound impact he had on many lives.

The Archdiocese of Ibadan and the Region have lost a valuable asset, a dedicated servant of God, and a passionate advocate for effective communication within the Church.

The faithful are united in prayer for the repose of his soul. May God grant eternal rest to Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony Akiwowo and provide solace and strength to his immediate family, His Grace the Archbishop of Ibadan, and the entire faithful of the Ibadan Archdiocese during this difficult time.
