Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria Kicks Off first National Executive Council Meeting and Award Ceremony in Ijebu-Ode Diocese

The Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria (CWON) has officially commenced its much-anticipated National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting and Award Ceremony, being hosted by the Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode. Although delegates began arriving on June 17th, the formal proceedings gained significant momentum today, June 19th, with a crucial courtesy visit to the Bishop of Ijebu-Ode Diocese, Most Rev. Francis Adesina.
The atmosphere at the CWO center in Ijebu-Ode was filled with reverence and anticipation as the women led by the National President; Hon. Elizabeth Sonubi proceeded to pay a courtesy visit to Most Rev. Francis Adesina; Bishop of Ijebu-Ode Diocese. During his address, the Bishop thoughtfully noted the timing of their meeting, observing that it fell within the solemn period between Trinity Sunday (June 15th, 2025) and Corpus Christi (June 19th, 2025).
Bishop Adesina delivered a poignant admonition to the women, urging them to embody high integrity, starting from their homes before extending it to their public lives. He emphasized the profound impact women have in shaping society, beginning with the domestic sphere. Furthermore, the Bishop encouraged the CWON members to embrace evangelization with the same fervor and love exemplified by Pope Leo XIV, highlighting the importance of spreading the Gospel message with zeal. He also advised them to actively seek counsel and wisdom from the experiences of their elders, fostering intergenerational learning and strength within the organization.
Later in the day, the delegates immersed themselves in a series of spiritual activities that set a vibrant tone for the meeting. These included the praying of the Holy Rosary, a solemn exposition and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, a penitential service followed by opportunities for confession, and Holy Mass. The Mass was Celebrated by the Provincial Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Anthony Famoroti. Concelebrating with him was the Diocesan Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Jude-Marie Ezeigbo, and other esteemed priests including Fr. Alfred-Matthew Nworie, Fr. Charles Soyege, and Fr. Anthony Adetayo.
The women expressed immense joy and satisfaction with the very lively and spiritually enriching opening formalities, which have undoubtedly prepared them for a productive and blessed NEC Meeting and Award Ceremony. The event, which runs until June 22nd, is expected to address key organizational matters, celebrate achievements, and further strengthen the commitment of Catholic women to their faith and community in Nigeria.
