Rev. Fr. Paul Oshunsanya Sworn in as Bishop’s Secretary in Ijebu-Ode Diocese

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode; Most Rev. Francis Obafemi Adesina, on Friday, March 21st, 2025 officially appointed Rev. Fr. Paul Oshunsanya as his new secretary. The solemn ceremony of the oaths of office took place at the chapel of the Catholic Bishop’s House in Ijebu-Ode in the presence of Bishop Adesina, who received the oaths, and the Diocesan Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Albert Igbodipe, who served as a witness. Fr. Oshunsanya publicly professed his faith before undertaking the sacred obligations of his new role. He solemnly swore oaths of confidentiality and fidelity to the Church and to Bishop Adesina.

Through these oaths, Fr. Oshunsanya pledged to remain steadfast in his loyalty to the Church and the Bishop, and to uphold the secrecy of all matters entrusted to him through his office as the Bishop’s secretary. These commitments remain binding even after the conclusion of his tenure.

Prior to the administration of the oaths, Bishop Adesina highlighted the significance of the appointment, noting that Fr. Oshunsanya is the third secretary to serve him during his episcopacy. The Bishop then outlined the essential qualities of a bishop’s secretary, emphasizing the need for strong organizational skills, effective communication and interpersonal abilities, unwavering confidentiality, professionalism, and a positive disposition. He further stressed the importance of a thorough understanding of the Church and its operations.

Following the taking of the oaths, Bishop Adesina warmly congratulated Fr. Oshunsanya and urged him to remain faithful to his promises, reminding him of the canonical consequences of any dereliction of duty.
