The Congregation of the Passionist Sisters, Nigerian Delegation, celebrated the first and final profession of her sisters on September 3, 2025. The ceremony, held at Mater Dei Parish in New GRA, Enugu, saw four sisters make their final profession of vows and two others their first.
Among those who made their final vows was Sr. Florence Ogunfunwa CP, a former Choir Mistress of St. Anthony Grammar School Private (SANTOS Private) in Ijebu-Imushin. Her final profession brings immense pride to her alma mater and marks a historic moment for the institution.
The solemn Mass was officiated by Most Rev. Calistus V.C. Onaga, Bishop of Enugu Diocese, who was joined by numerous priests and hundreds of religious men and women. A large gathering of the lay faithful also attended, filling the church with a sense of shared joy and reverence.
In his homily, Bishop Onaga guided and encouraged the newly professed sisters, urging them to remain deeply rooted in the founding spirit of their congregation. He emphasized the importance of a life of prayer and obedience.
Sr. Florence was part of the first graduating class of SANTOS Private in 2012, when the Mission returned to take over the students’ formation through the private wing. She holds a First Class Degree in Physics Education from the prestigious Veritas University in Bwari, Abuja. The profession ceremony was attended by the Principal of SANTOS Private, staff members, and several alumni, including some of her former classmates.
This event is a historic milestone for SANTOS Private, as Sr. Florence is the first student from the private wing to embrace religious life within the Congregation. Her commitment is seen as a source of motivation for other students to consider a life of Religious service.
Sr. Florence appreciates the role her Alma Mater played in her development as she thanked the present Principal; Fr. Anthony Adetayo for coming. She also thanked all the former Principals and Chaplains, all the VPs and all the teachers, past and present. She prays that the school will continue to produce intelligent and morally upright students to change the society for the better.
