Department of Mission and Dialogue Commission, Southwest region issues her Communiqué

The Catholic Church has been actively engaging in the Mission of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue to promote unity and understanding among different Christian denominations. Various efforts made by the Church include: Conferences and Meetings with leaders of Separated Brethren, Interfaith Dialogue to address common challenges and promotion mutual respect and understanding.
This is why the second seminar of the department of Mission and Dialogue Commission of the Southwestern Region of Nigeria was held between Tuesday 18th to Wednesday 19th June 2024 at SARPI Ede, Osun State.
This year’s seminar titled “The need for ecumenical dialogue in the South west region according to the spirit of Second Vatican Council facilitated by Rev. Fr. Loius Omojola of Catholic Diocese of Ekiti.
At the end of the seminar, Rev. Fr. Francis Adekunle Adedigba; Secretary to the Department of Mission and Dialogue Commission reported the following resolutions.
1. Priests and Religious as a matter of pastoral necessity should be involved in ecumenical dialogue programs.
2. Catholics should maintain catholic identity at every ecumenical gathering
3. Catholics should stop discriminating against other separated brethren
4. The church should promote adequate training for the ecumenical animators or catholic representative
5. Annual participation at the Christian week of prayer, should be encouraged in the Archdiocese and Dioceses.
6. Every Catholic representative should make it a point of duty to attend CAN meetings and functions regularly.
7. Adequate finance and moral support for the Catholic representatives in CAN.
